Large Purchasers of Green Power

Dow Corning

April 2010 - Dow Corning, a provider of silicones and silicon based technology, purchased 28 million kWh of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for 2010 and 2011. The RECs are equivalent to the projected electricity use at Dow Corning's corporate headquarters in Midland, Michigan. Dow Corning purchased the RECs from NextEra Energy Resource's EarthEra initiative to balance the environmental impact of the site's carbon emissions and help build new renewable energy facilities. All funds from Dow Corning's purchase are placed in the EarthEra Renewable Energy Trust, which is dedicated to building new wind and solar generating facilities in the United States.

Dow Corning also recently developed a third solar installation in Michigan and constructed a Solar Discovery Center at its Corporate Headquarters. In total, the three projects Dow Corning is involved with in Michigan are generating approximately 100 kilowatts of solar power, at peak.
