January 2010 - Other World Computing (OWC), a technology and internet services provider headquartered in Woodstock, Illinois, has installed a Vestas V39-500 kilowatt (kW) wind turbine. The turbine is projected to generate 1.25 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, nearly double the current energy requirements of OWC operations. The excess power is sold back to the local power provider.
The turbine is part of a slate of initiatives developed by OWC when designing its corporate headquarters. The turbine and the OWC building and campus have also applied for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) platinum status.
