Large Purchasers of Green Power

The United Methodist Church

December 2007 - An aggregation of 180 United Methodist churches in North Texas have committed to purchase green power for 10% of their electricity needs. Under a four-year agreement with Hudson Energy Services, the churches will collectively purchase 4.2 million kWh of wind energy annually from Texas-based resources. According to a December 21st article in the Dallas Morning News, a spokesman for Hudson Energy Services reported that by buying as a group the churches save between 6% and 8% over what they would pay individually and that the green component costs about 6%. Thus, the aggregated green power purchase is essentially cost-neutral or results in savings of up to 2%.
