Large Purchasers of Green Power

Birkenstock Footprint Sandals

July 1999 - Birkenstock Footprint Sandals, the U.S. importer and distributor of German-made Birkenstock products, became the first large commercial customer to sign up for Green Mountain Energy's Wind for the Future 2.0 green power product. Birkenstock is purchasing the renewable power for its U.S. corporate headquarters and distribution center in Marin County, California, and its San Francisco-based retail store. According to Margot Fraser, President of Birkenstock, the company chose Green Mountain's product because of its high new wind energy content — 25% of the energy comes from newly constructed wind turbines. To date, Green Mountain Energy(SM) has constructed three large turbines in San Gorgonio Pass to meet customer demand for its wind power product.
