February 2007 - Indiana Lt. Governor Becky Skillman announced that the Indiana Department of Administration will purchase enough renewable energy this year to meet 7% of the electric consumption of state facilities in Marion County. Indiana's strategic energy plan, Hoosier Homegrown Energy, calls for state government facilities in Marion County to obtain 10% of their electricity use from Indiana-based renewable energy sources by 2010.
Through Indianapolis Power and Light and its IPL Green Power Option program, the state will purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) sourced from landfill methane projects operated by the Wabash Valley Power Association. The purchase amounts to 8.45 million kWh annually.
