January 2008 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership issued revised lists of its leading green power partners nationally. Intel Corporation vaulted to the head of the National Top 25 list by committing to purchase 1.3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy certificates annually. The U.S. Air Force climbed back to 3rd place after more than doubling its annual green power purchases to nearly 900 million kWh per year. In addition, HSBC North America jumped to the 10th spot by more than doubling its green power purchase to 300 million kWh per year. New to the National Top 25 list are two Texas cities—the City of Dallas (#9) and the City of Houston (#12), which are now the leading local government purchasers in EPA's program.
EPA also announced that fifty-three Fortune 500 companies are collectively purchasing more than 6 billion kWh of green power annually, surpassing the agency's challenge to double the size of their combined purchases. In December 2006, the EPA set a goal for Fortune 500 companies to exceed 5 billion kWh of green power purchases by the end of 2007.
EPA's Green Power Partnership works with more than 850 partner organizations that are collectively buying more than 13 billion kWh of green power annually.

December 2006 - Twenty-eight companies, organizations and individuals were recognized with national achievement awards at the Eleventh National Renewable Energy Marketing Conference. The Green Power Leadership Awards recognize actions that are significantly advancing the development of renewable electricity sources through renewable energy markets. The awards are presented by the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Center for Resource Solutions.
Among green power purchasers, the highest honors went to Aspen Skiing Company, HSBC-North America, Johnson & Johnson, Starbucks, and Whole Foods Market, who were named Partner of the Year. Portland General Electric was named Green Power Program of the Year and Silicon Valley Power won for New Green Power Program. Jim Burke of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, and Brent Alderfer and Eric Blank of Community Energy Inc. received the Green Power Pioneer Award.

January 2006 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership issued an updated list of its "Top 25 Partners" for the end of 2005. The U.S. Air Force maintained its spot as the top purchaser of green power nationally—a rank it has held since the list was first published in September 2004—with current annual purchases of more than one billion kWh. Whole Foods Market is now second on the list with annual purchases of 458.4 million kWh, equivalent to 100% of its total corporate electricity needs. Other leading corporate purchasers include Johnson & Johnson (241.4 billion kWh annual purchase and fourth on the list); Starbucks (150 million kWh, sixth); Safeway Inc. (78 million kWh, eighth); and HSBC North America (68.2 million kWh, tenth).
Collectively, the Top 25 "Partners" purchase 3.3 billion kWh of green power annually, representing approximately 75% of the total purchases made by all 600 Partners.

October 2005 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) honored a group of organizations committed to advancing the development of green power markets in the United States. The annual Green Power Leadership Awards, recognizing leading national green power purchasers and suppliers, were presented on October 24 at the Tenth National Green Power Marketing Conference in Austin, Texas.
EPA and DOE presented awards for green power purchasing to 29 organizations. The highest honor in purchasing, the Green Power Partner of the Year Award, was presented to HSBC North America, Johnson & Johnson, the U.S. Air Force and WhiteWave Foods Company. Additional Purchaser Award winners included: Alameda County, California; Aspen Skiing Company; the Atlantic Golf division of the Brick Companies; Dagoba Organic Chocolate; FedEx Express Oakland, California Hub Facility; City of Fresno, Calif.; Green Mountain Coffee Roasters; Harvard University; the Hyatt Regency Dallas and the Hyatt Regency Dallas-Fort Worth; Mohawk Fine Papers; Safeway Inc.; St. Francis Winery and Vineyard; Starbucks Coffee; The University of Minnesota, Morris; the City of Vallejo, Calif.; Western Washington University; Whole Foods Market – Rocky Mountain Region; and the World Bank Group.
Seven awards were also presented to organizations demonstrating notable success in marketing and encouraging green power program participation. The highest honor, Green Power Program of the Year, was presented to Austin Energy's GreenChoice Program for the second consecutive year. July 2005 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership released an updated list of its "Top 25" green power purchasers. New to the list are HSBC, with annual renewable energy usage of 68,181 MWh, Mohawk Paper Mills (45,000 MWh), Starbucks (22,500 MWh), and Syracuse University (22,000 MWh). In addition, the U.S. Department of Energy increased its purchases from about 14,000 MWh to 37,000 MWh, representing 100% of the electricity needs of its Forrestal Building headquarters.

April 2005 - HSBC Bank announced that it has entered into an agreement with 3 Phases Energy (now serviced by 3Degrees) to purchase wind energy certificates equivalent to 30% of its electricity needs. HSBC will purchase 45 million kWh annually of Green-e certified renewable energy certificates sourced from new wind projects in California and Minnesota, making it one of the largest retail green power purchases in North America.
Last December, HSBC became the world's first major bank to commit to carbon neutrality. The bank plans to achieve this goal by reducing energy use, buying green electricity, and offsetting the remaining carbon dioxide emissions by investing in carbon credit or allowance projects.
