The company has also joined Green-e Marketplace by purchasing enough Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy to meet 100% of the annual electricity needs for its headquarters and by ensuring the company's 100% Recycled Envirocopy is manufactured with renewable electricity.
By participating in Green-e Marketplace, Office Depot can display the Green-e logo on its line of Office Depot Green 100% Recycled Envirocopy paper. Envirocopy will be sourced through New Leaf Paper.

February 2007 - Office Depot, a retail provider of office products and services, has cracked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partnership's list of the nation's Top 10 retail green power purchasers. Office Depot currently purchases 76 million kWh of green power in the form of wind and biogas renewable energy certificates (RECs) under an agreement with Cadence Network, Inc. The purchase represents 12% of the office supply company's total annual electricity usage.

June 2004 - Office Depot, a national seller of office products with 867 retail stores in 44 states, announced that it has entered into an agreement with Pittsburgh-based Strategic Energy to purchase green power for 12 of its California retail stores and warehouses. Under the two-year contract, the company will buy approximately 12 million kWh of electricity annually, generated from landfill gas.
