Horizon Organic to Purchase Wind RECs

October 2004 - Horizon Organic, the leading U.S. manufacturer of certified organic foods, announced that it will purchase wind energy credits to replace all of the electricity used in its operations beginning in 2005. The company follows the lead of its sister brand, White Wave, which will purchase nearly 25 million kWh of wind energy in 2004 to cover the electricity needed for its entire product supply chain. White Wave received a Green Power Leadership Award for green power purchasing in 2003 and a Green Power Partner of the Year Award in 2004. Both Horizon Organic and White Wave are subsidiary companies of Dean Foods Company.
