Oklahoma Co-ops Offer Wind Option

Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, an Oklahoma-based generation and transmission cooperative, is offering a wind energy option to approximately 400,000 retail customers in the state through its 19 distribution cooperatives. Under the WindWorks program, the co-ops offer wind energy certificates to residential and commercial customers in 100-kWh monthly blocks for $0.50 each, or a price premium of 0.5¢/kWh. There is no minimum period of enrollment. The certificates are supplied from the 74.25-MW Blue Canyon wind energy project located in southwestern Oklahoma. Currently, about 1% of residential customers are participating in the program, subscribing approximately 10% of the available output.
