CT Governor Commits to Green Purchases

On April 22, Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland issued an Executive Order, which calls for state government to obtain 20% of its electricity needs from renewable energy sources by 2010, increasing to 50% in 2020 and 100% by 2050. The order, which covers all state-owned buildings, including colleges and universities, is an outgrowth of a stakeholders dialogue on climate change conducted during 2003. Under the order, the total government demand for renewable electricity is estimated to be 140 million kWh in 2010.
