Community Energy, Inc. (CEI), a marketer of wind energy certificates, announced that 10 New York municipalities are purchasing wind energy from CEI to meet from 10% to 60% of their municipal electricity needs. The 10 communities are part of a "Municipal Wind Buyers Group," which is able to reduce wind energy prices for all members as they reach aggregate purchasing milestones. To date, the aggregated purchases have led to a 5% price reduction from the initial 2¢/kWh premium.
