East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC), a generation and transmission (G&T) cooperative serving 16 distribution utilities in Kentucky, is offering a green power option, EnviroWatts, to its member cooperatives. Currently, three of the member distribution cooperatives, Owen Electric, Blue Grass Energy and Inter-County Energy are participating in the program, offering EnviroWatts to their residential and business customers at an extra cost of $2.75 per 100-kWh block, or 2.75¢/kWh. Clark Energy plans to offer the product later this summer. Currently, EKPC is purchasing power from a landfill gas project owned by Wabash Valley Power Association in Indiana, but plans to build a new 2.4-MW landfill gas facility in northern Kentucky for future program supply.
