The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unveiled a new online calculator to help businesses and residential consumers understand the emissions impacts of their electricity use. The Power Profiler provides location-specific data on the fuel mix used to generate electricity and the emissions associated with a consumer's annual electricity consumption. The program estimates emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide. EPA plans to add information about green power options available to businesses and consumers nationally.
The program was developed by EPA's Green Power Partnership, which is a voluntary program working to standardize green power procurement as part of best practice environmental management. The Partnership includes 115 businesses and institutional customers that have committed to purchase a combined 680,000 MWh of green power annually.
