New York PSC Approves New Green Program

The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) approved a new program under which Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation will facilitate green power purchases by its customers from independent green power providers. The program was part of the Niagara Mohawk-National Grid merger settlement approved by the PSC last November. Under the program, customers will not be required to switch their service from the utility to purchase green power and green power marketers will be able to use the utility's billing system to collect revenues. Niagara Mohawk will also provide information to its customers on the available green power options. The program is expected to begin in the Fall.
