Western Resources completed construction of two 750-kW wind turbines that, starting July 1st, will supply a wind power purchase option for the utility's customers. The "Westar Wind" program is available to all 620,000 customers served by KPL and KGE, the Kansas-based retail operating companies of Western Resources. The wind power is being sold in 100-kWh blocks at a price premium of $5.00 per month, or 5¢/kWh. Participants must enroll in the program for at least one year. The turbines will generate 3.6 million kWh of electricity per year, enough to supply the annual electricity needs of about 400 households.
