Texas New Mexico Power Company (TNMP), which serves nearly 240,000 customers in Texas and New Mexico, announced the availability of its Energy Ranch wind power option beginning in July 2001. The utility's Texas-based customers can purchase 100-kWh blocks of wind power for an additional $1.00 per month, or 1.0¢/kWh. The wind power will be supplied from the 2.6-MW King Mountain project located in West Texas.
Under the state's electricity restructuring law, TNMP is required to provide about 7 MW of its power supply from renewables to meet a statewide renewables portfolio standard (RPS). Wind power supplied under the Energy Ranch program can be used to satisfy the RPS requirement.
