Community Energy, Inc. announced that another eight colleges and universities in Pennsylvania have committed to purchase wind-generated electricity supplied from new in-state wind farms. The schools include Allegheny College, Bucknell University, Dickinson College, Franklin & Marshall College, Gannon University, Gettysburg College, Juniata College, and Swarthmore College.
Collectively, the eight schools will purchase nearly 6.9 million kWh of wind energy annually and the wind energy will supply between 2.5% and 9% of each school's annual electricity needs under contracts ranging from one to five years. With earlier purchases by Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State University, the University of Pennsylvania, and 14 schools in the State System of Higher Education, 25 Pennsylvania-based colleges and universities are now buying green power.
