PG&E Corporation announced plans to build a new 44-MW wind project in California from which the company will sell Pure Wind certificates representing the environmental attributes associated with each megawatt-hour of wind energy generated by the project. The 74-turbine project will be constructed in San Gorgonio Pass near Palm Springs with a planned completion date of Spring 2001.
The California project marks the company's second foray into wind energy generation and wind certificate sales. Earlier this year, the PG&E's National Energy Group began selling Pure Wind certificates tied to the output of an 11-MW merchant wind facility constructed in Madison County, New York.
