Under an agreement reached with Community Energy, a Pennsylvania-based green power marketer, Drexel University will purchase wind energy to meet nearly 10% of its electricity needs. The wind purchase amounts to about 4 million kWh per year or the output equivalent of a single 1.3-MW wind turbine. The wind energy will be supplied from the new 60-MW Pocono Wind Farm, which is under construction near Scranton, PA. Currently, more than 25 Pennsylvania colleges and universities are purchasing wind power.
