EAD Environmental, a New York City-based marketer of renewable energy certificates and greenhouse gas credits, is supplying two Connecticut-based colleges with green power. Connecticut College is purchasing 3.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind energy certificates annually, which represents 22% of the college's electricity needs. And students of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, raised funds to purchase EAD-supplied certificates for a spring campus event.
EAD certificates are Green-e certified and marketed via the Internet in 500-kWh blocks for $7.50 or 1.5¢/kWh. The company is a subsidiary of Natsource, a broker of emissions credits and renewable energy certificates serving wholesale markets.
