TXU Energy, which serves 2.7 million electric customers in Texas, announced that it has contracted with Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene to supply wind power to meet the entire electricity requirements of the base. Under the two-year agreement, Dyess will purchase approximately 78 million kilowatt-hours of wind power each year, thus becoming the largest retail wind power purchaser in the United States. Dyess is offsetting the extra cost of the wind power with savings realized in the state's competitive retail electricity market.
