Xcel Minnesota Wind Option Approved

The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission recently approved a wind energy option for Xcel Energy's 1.1 million Minnesota-based customers. Under the Windsource program, customers will have an option to purchase 100-kWh blocks of wind power for $2.00 each, or a premium of 2¢/kWh. Xcel plans to launch the program in January 2003 with 1.8-MW of wind power supplied from a small wind vendor in southwestern Minnesota.
