El Paso Electric, which serves customers in southern New Mexico and west Texas, announced that its Texas-based customers now can participate in the Renewable Energy Tariff Program. Residential customers can purchase 100-kWh blocks of wind power for an additional $1.92 per month, or 1.92¢/kWh, while commercial customers will pay $3.04 per month. The wind power will be supplied from two, 660-kW turbines located at Hueco Mountain Wind Ranch near Horizon City, Texas. Customers must agree to participate for a minimum of one year.
