Renewable Energy Powers the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic

January 2016 - The National Hockey League (NHL) has offset the carbon dioxide emissions of the 2016 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic with the purchase of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The NHL, through its energy provider Constellation Energy, has previously used Green-e certified RECs to match all NHL games and premier events, and the league has purchased Green-e Climate certified carbon offsets to match the estimated amount of emissions resulting from some NHL activities. The NHL and Constellation have collaborated on several renewable energy and energy efficiency projects for NHL arenas and team facilities. In 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership named the NHL the 20th largest user of green power in the U.S.
