The Berkshire East Ski Area completed the installation of an onsite 900-kilowatt wind turbine, which is expected to produce approximately 2.2 million kilowatt-hours per year and meet 100 percent of the ski area's annual electricity demand. Berkshire East received a renewable energy grant from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center for $440,000. The payback for this project is expected to take 7-10 years and excess generation will be sold back to the ski area's local utility. The $3 million turbine installation is in addition to solar panels already in use at the site.
