Aqua America announced that the volume of its green power purchases has qualified it for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership. The company is purchasing the equivalent of nearly 13 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which represents 4 percent of the organization's electricity use. The Green-e Energy certified renewable energy certificates (RECs) were purchased from Constellation NewEnergy, a competitive energy supplier, and will be sourced primarily through wind energy.
Aqua America also installed a 1.1-megawatt solar farm at its Ingram's Mill water treatment plant in 2009.
