Falls Church, Virginia has joined the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership and approved a yearlong, citywide challenge to become Virginia's first EPA Green Power Community (GPC). The GPC designation will require the city to acquire at least three percent of its electricity from renewable sources. Currently, the city uses roughly 494,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power and would need to procure 4.3 million kWh to become eligible for GPC status.
