OSU to Purchase 50 MW of Wind Energy for the Next 20 Years

October 2012 - Ohio State University (OSU) has entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Iberdrola Renewables to purchase 50 megawatts of wind power from the Blue Creek Wind Farm in Ohio. The power will be delivered to OSU by American Electric Power and is expected to provide for 25 percent of the university's annual electricity demand.

In addition to providing clean power to the university, the partnership will also allow for new research opportunities between OSU and Iberdrola Renewables. Through the agreement, OSU researchers will be granted access to important research data from the wind farm for use in multi-disciplinary research projects including rotor blade design and optimization, gear design, ecological and environmental analysis, turbine generators, wind modeling, wind energy markets, policy and community concerns, and noise optimization.
