San Diego Zoo Announces Electric Vehicle Charging Project

Smart City San Diego and the San Diego Zoo have announced that they will install a solar photovoltaic canopy to charge electric vehicles in the Zoo's parking lot. The solar canopy will directly charge electric vehicles, store solar power for future use and provide renewable energy to the surrounding community. The project will incorporate 10 solar canopies producing 90 kilowatts (kW) of electricity and features five EV charging stations. Additionally, the project will feature 100 kW of battery energy storage that will be charged by the solar array.
