Walmart Unveils 1-MW Wind Turbine at CA Distribution Center

August 2012 - Walmart has unveiled its first on-site, utility-scale wind turbine at its Red Bluff, California distribution center. The turbine, which is expected to begin operation in the fall, has a 1-megawatt capacity and is expected to generate approximately 2,200,000 kilowatt-hours annually, or 15-20% of the distribution center's electricity demand each year. Walmart has agreed to purchase the power produced by the turbine through the execution of a power purchase agreement with Foundation Windpower, which installed the wind turbine and will own and operate it.
