BMW and Green Mountain Energy Company have teamed up to offer purchasers of the BMW ActiveE electric vehicle the ability to buy renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Green Mountain to cover the estimated electricity used to charge the electric vehicle. Each ActiveE car from BMW will be offered to customers under a two-year lease. A one-time payment of $48 purchases enough RECs to allow owners of the ActiveE to ensure that the electricity used to charge the vehicle over the course of the lease period will be provided with renewable energy.
