DIA Adds 4.4 MW of Solar Power

August 2011 - Denver International Airport (DIA) completed its third solar power installation, adding 4.4 megawatts (MW) of solar power capacity. Constellation Energy installed the new solar arrays and will continue to own and maintain the panels under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the airport. The solar installation is expected to generate about 7,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, from 19,000 Yingli PV solar panels.

The solar project adds to DIA's existing 2 MW solar system which began in 2008, and a 1.6 MW system which started operation in 2010. DIA's three solar systems are capable of collectively producing 8 MW of solar power, enough to meet 6% of the airport's electricity demands. The solar installations are located on 45 acres of farmland near the airport.
