EPA Updates Top 50 Purchaser Lists

June 2010 - The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership has released its latest list of top green power purchasers. Retaining their places at the top of the list were Intel Corporation, Kohl's Department Stores, Whole Foods Market, City of Houston, and Dell Inc.

Other changes in rankings included Motorola increasing its purchase by 40.6 million kilowatt-hours to meet 32 percent of its total purchased electricity use and PepsiCo leaving the top green power purchasing list to instead invest in on-site renewable energy projects. In addition, there were a number of newcomers to the Top 50 list including: Montgomery County Clean Energy Buyers Group (No. 22), Hilton Worldwide (No. 32), Citi (No. 49), and Oregon State University (No. 50). Collectively, the top 50 largest purchases amount to more than 11.6 billion kWh annually, or more than 70 percent of the green power commitments made by all EPA Green Power Partners.

EPA's Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,200 partner organizations that voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. Overall, the partners buy more than 17 billion kWh of green power annually.
