State of Delaware Greens Energy Portfolio, Saves Electricity Costs

The State of Delaware has contracted for over 800,000,000 kWh of electricity, 25 percent of which is renewable energy, using the World Energy Exchange. The 36-month contract was awarded to Washington Gas Energy Services. In addition to Delaware's renewable portfolio standards (RPS) of twenty percent by 2020, the purchase will bring the State's total percentage of clean energy to over thirty. The deal is also projected to save Delaware and its partners over $13 million.

The State's partners for the energy bid included school districts, volunteer fire companies, local governments, and higher education institutions.
