Mars Chocolate North America announced the completion of a 2.15 megawatt solar garden at its Hackettstown, N.J. headquarters, where M&M'S® Brand Chocolate Candies are manufactured. The solar garden's peak electric output is equivalent to approximately 20 percent of the plant's peak demand. The facility is composed of more than 28,000 ground-mounted First Solar thin film panels and is located on 18 acres adjacent to the company's headquarters.
The project was constructed by Juwi Solar Inc. and is owned by PSEG Solar Source, a subsidiary of PSEG, which has contracted to sell the entire output to Mars and will retain ownership of the renewable energy certificates (RECs).
