Xcel Energy Expands Windsource to Wisconsin

Xcel Energy customers in Wisconsin can now elect to purchase renewable energy through its Windsource program. Under the program, customers committing to a one-year enrollment can purchase 100 kilowatt-hour (kWh) blocks of wind energy for an additional $1.15 monthly charge, or a rate premium of 1.5¢/kWh. The program will initially be sourced from wind farms in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Collectively, more than 70,000 residential and 1,000 business customers are participating in Xcel's Windsource program, which is also offered in the utility's service territories in Minnesota, Colorado and New Mexico.
