Hosting.com a “Green Energy Champion”

September 2008 - Hosting.com has become the first "Green Energy Champion" with Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E)’s Green Energy program in Louisville, Kentucky. Under the agreement with LG&E, Hosting.Com, a web hosting and co-location services company, is purchasing 2.4 million kWh of Kentucky-based low-impact hydropower, including the Mother Ann Lee Hydroelectric Plant, located on the Kentucky River near Harrodsburg. The price paid by large customers like Hosting.com is about 1.3¢/kWh above standard rate.

LG&E, a subsidiary of E.ON U.S., serves 401,000 electric customers in Louisville and 16 surrounding counties. Hosting.com owns and operates data center facilities in Louisville, Kentucky, Irvine, California, San Francisco, California, and Boston, Massachusetts. Data centers tend to be energy intensive, using significantly more electricity per square foot than most other commercial and industrial facilities. Hosting.com’s purchase is one of the largest to date in the sector.
