Steelcase Inc. Supports New Wind Farm with REC Purchase

Steelcase Inc., a manufacturer of office furniture, announced a five-year commitment to buy all of the green power that will be generated at a 10 MW wind farm under development in Panhandle, Texas. Through an agreement with Renewable Choice Energy, Steelcase will purchase approximately 35 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (REC) annually from the wind farm for at least its first five years of operation. The purchase is equivalent to about 20% of Steelcase's electricity needs at its U.S.-based facilities. The wind farm is being developed by a local landowner and John Deere Renewables and will be known as the "Wege Wind Energy Farm" in honor of Steelcase founding family member and former board member, Peter Wege. The project is expected to be operational in May 2008.
