Duquesne University Expands RECs Purchase

Duquesne University announced that it is buying green power for all of its purchased electricity needs. Under an agreement with Strategic Energy, the university is purchasing 8 million kWh of Green-e certified renewable energy credits (RECs) for use at its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania campus. The university generates about 85% of its electricity with natural gas and also contracts with an independent provider of wind power. Through its recent purchase of RECs from Strategic Energy, Duquesne brought its total REC purchases to 12.4 million kWh, ensuring that 100% of its purchased outsourced energy is renewable.
