Allstate Offers Carbon Offset Option

December 2007 - Allstate Insurance Company announced that it is offsetting a portion of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the energy used at its corporate headquarters and business-related vehicle travel by supporting reforestation and wind energy projects in the U.S. Through a contribution to Carbonfund.org, the company is supporting the purchase of 24.5 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the Horse Hollow II wind energy farm in West Texas and offsets from reforestation projects in Kansas and Louisiana.

In addition, Allstate announced the launch of a new eco-friendly insurance option for consumers in Colorado and Ohio to offset their auto emissions. For each consumer that enrolls in Allstate Green, Allstate will donate $30 to the nonprofit Carbonfund.org to offset an average consumer's vehicle emissions by supporting wind energy and reforestation projects in the United States.
