Montgomery County (Penn.) commissioners announced that the county will purchase wind energy equivalent to the electricity needs of all of its facilities, making it one of the largest municipal purchases in the country. Under an agreement with PECO and Community Energy, the county will purchase more than 29 million kWh of wind energy certificates through the PECO Wind program, joining more than 7,300 county residents and 115 area organizations and businesses that participate in the program. The purchase follows the creation of a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Task Force, which County Commissioners initiated to find ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency and energy independence in the county.
