Philadelphia International Airport has entered into an agreement with PECO Energy to purchase 13 million kWh of wind energy each year for the next five years. The airport will pay an additional $227,514 per year for the wind energy, or 1.75¢/kWh. The wind energy purchase represents 7% of the airport's annual electricity usage and is believed to be the largest renewable energy purchase among airports nationwide. The energy will be purchased through the PECO WIND program and supplied from the Waymart Wind Energy Center in northeast Pennsylvania.
