Wells Fargo & Company took the top spot in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) list of the nation's "Top 25" green power purchasers with a commitment to 550 million kWh of annual renewable energy purchases, which represents 42% of the company's total electricity use. Newcomers to the list include Cisco Systems Inc. (at #11), New York University (#13), Carbonfund.org (#17), the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (#18), and Kohl's Department Stores (#23).
The EPA Green Power Partnership is comprised of a diverse set of organizations including Fortune 500 companies, small and medium businesses, government institutions, and colleges and universities that had committed to a total of more than 7 billion kWh of annual renewable energy purchases at the end of 2006.
