Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) announced that Long Island municipalities will be eligible for a 1¢/kWh incentive on green power purchases under the utility's Green Choice program. The incentive payment, which effectively lowers the green power premium for municipal purchases to 1¢/kWh from 2¢/kWh, will be available for three years, retroactive to January 2006. A total of $300,000 annually has been set aside to fund the incentive with each municipality eligible for a maximum payment of $30,000, equivalent to a 3 million kWh annual purchase commitment.
