According to the National Ski Areas Association, 21 ski areas nationwide are now offsetting 100% of their electricity use with green power purchasing, representing about 290 million kWh of renewable energy in aggregate. Most recently, Maine's Sugarloaf/USA and Sunday River resorts reported that they are jointly purchasing 30 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) equivalent, following purchase announcements by Alpine Meadows, Calif., Grand Targhee, Wyo., Middlebury College Snow Bowl, Vt. and Shawnee Peak, Maine.
