Entergy to Offer Green Pricing Program

The Louisiana Public Service Commission approved a one-year pilot green power program to be offered by Entergy Gulf States to its 360,000 customers in Baton Rouge and western Louisiana. Under the program, consumers will be able to purchase renewable energy in 100-kWh monthly increments for $2.25, or 2.25¢/kWh above standard electricity rates. A typical residential customer in Baton Rouge uses 1,500 kWh of electricity each month. The program, scheduled to begin in spring 2007, will be supplied from existing biomass facilities located in Louisiana. If customer participation proves insufficient to cover the program costs, Entergy will be allowed to recover its marketing costs through a 5¢/month surcharge that would be assessed to all ratepayers for one year.
