GPP Purchase Commitments Top Seven Billion KWh

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership (GPP) released its quarterly list of the "Top 25" organizations that purchase electricity generated from renewable energy resources. While the U.S. Air Force remains the top national purchaser, Wells Fargo & Company has become the top corporate purchaser, placing second overall. Other new list entrants include DuPont Company (No. 7), Vail Resorts (No. 9), Sprint Nextel (No. 14), California State University System (No. 19), City of Austin, Texas (No. 21), and NatureWorks LLC (No. 23).

In aggregate, Green Power Partners purchase more than 7 billion kWh of renewable energy annually, an increase of nearly 240% since the end of 2004. The Top 25 purchases account for nearly 4.7 billion kWh or about two-thirds of all Partner purchases.
