The Village of Northbrook, Ill. signed a one-year agreement with Community Energy, Inc. to purchase 4.5 million kWh of wind energy credits to run the city's water plant. At a contract price of 1.70¢/kWh, the purchase is expected to add about $5 to the average yearly residential water bill. The wind energy will be supplied from the Crescent Ridge Wind Farm located in Bureau County, Ill.
