Vail Resorts Purchases 100% Wind Energy

August 2006 - Vail Resorts announced that it is purchasing wind energy equivalent to its total annual corporate electricity use, including its five mountain resorts and 125 retail locations, its lodging properties, and its new corporate headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado. Under an agreement with Renewable Choice Energy, Vail Resorts will purchase about 152 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (RECs) from wind energy facilities located in several states, making it the second-largest corporate buyer of wind energy nationally. The company also announced a Ski With the Wind promotion, which offers a free one-day ski lift ticket to families who commit to a one-year purchase of wind power for their residences.
