EPA Issues List of Top 10 Municipal Users

July 2006 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Green Power Partnership has issued a list of the top 10 municipal green power users. Topping the list is the city of San Diego, which generates more than 65 million kWh of renewable energy annually from on-site facilities, followed by the Austin Independent School District, which purchases more than 48 million kWh of renewable energy from Austin Energy. Other leading users include municipal buying groups in Montgomery County, Md., and in New York State, as well as the East Bay Municipal Utility District (Calif.), which generates electricity from bio-methane produced at its main wastewater treatment plant.
